Divide the percentage by 100, then multiply by the number.
Formula: (X ÷ 100) × Y
Example: What is 20% of 150? → (20 ÷ 100) × 150 = 30
Divide the part (X) by the whole (Y) and multiply by 100.
Formula: (X ÷ Y) × 100
Example: 50 is what % of 200? → (50 ÷ 200) × 100 = 25%
Multiply the original value by (1 + percentage ÷ 100).

The Four Calculation Modes
- % of Number - Find a percentage of any value. Perfect for calculating tips (15% of $84?), taxes (8.5% of $220?), discounts, or any portion of a whole. Formula: result = (percentage ÷ 100) × number.
- X is what % of Y? - Express one number as a fraction of another. Use this for test scores (42 out of 56 = what %?), conversion rates, profit margins, or comparing two quantities. Formula: result = (X ÷ Y) × 100.
- Increase by % - Apply a percentage markup to a base value. Useful for salary raise calculations, price increases, compound growth, or adding VAT. Formula: result = original × (1 + percentage ÷ 100).
