HEIC to JPG Converter
Convert iPhone HEIC photos to universally compatible JPEG format. Works in Safari on Apple devices. Free, no upload, completely private.
What is HEIC and why can't Windows open it?
HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) is Apple's default photo format used by iPhones and iPads since iOS 11. It uses HEVC (H.265) compression, producing files roughly 50% smaller than JPEG at equivalent quality. However, HEIC is not natively supported on Windows 10 (without a paid codec), most Android devices, and many desktop applications.
Browser support for HEIC conversion
Important: HEIC decoding requires platform-level support. This tool can convert HEIC files when used in Safari on macOS or iOS, since Apple's operating system provides the HEIC codec. On Windows or Android, the browser cannot decode HEIC files — in that case, you'll see an error. The most reliable approach for Windows users is to enable HEIC compatibility on the iPhone itself (Settings → Camera → Formats → Most Compatible).
Alternative: convert HEIC on your iPhone
The easiest solution for Windows users is to configure the iPhone to shoot in JPEG instead of HEIC: go to Settings → Camera → Formats → select "Most Compatible." This saves photos as JPEG automatically, eliminating the need for conversion entirely.
