Most online Word-to-PDF converters work by uploading your file to a server, converting it there, and sending a PDF back. That is fine for a shopping list and a genuine problem for an employment contract, a signed agreement, a medical letter, or a CV containing your home address and phone number. This converter takes a different approach: your .docx file is read directly by your browser using mammoth.js, an open-source library, and turned into a PDF by your browser's own print engine. The document never travels over the network. You can watch this in a browser's network panel, or disconnect from the internet after the page loads and convert anyway.

Being straight about this matters more than a marketing claim. The converter maps the structure of your Word document onto the PDF: headings, bold and italic text, bulleted and numbered lists, tables, hyperlinks and embedded images all come through. What it does not do is reproduce Word's exact pagination and font metrics — where Word breaks a page, how it kerns a particular typeface, or how it lays out a complex multi-column design.
The reason is structural rather than a shortcoming to be patched: matching Word pixel-for-pixel requires a full layout engine, which is why every converter that promises it runs LibreOffice on a server — and therefore needs your file. Choosing to keep the file on your device means accepting semantic fidelity instead of pixel fidelity. The modern .docx format is a ZIP archive of XML, which a browser can read. The older .doc format is a binary format from the 1990s that cannot practically be parsed client-side. If you have a .doc file, open it in Word, Google Docs or LibreOffice and use Save as or Download as to produce a .docx first — that conversion is free in all three.
